Final Exam Review WOH2022 - Spring 2011

YOU HAVE THREE OPTIONS

CHOOSE ONE

PREPARE FOR IT - THIS IS YOUR FINAL EXAM

YOU WILL TELL ME WHICH OPTION YOU HAVE DECIDED TO DO

WHEN YOU COME TO TAKE THE FINAL

NO CHANGING YOUR MIND

OPTION ONE

This is a short-answer test (like a long quiz with about 40 questions). The material to be covered includes the following:

Random lectures since Spring Break
Scramble for Africa video - http://youtu.be/Pw12KGSj53k
Robert Newman’s History of Oil Video - http://youtu.be/Id2ADQ67FPY

* John Hobson’s essay on Imperialism
* Haile Selassee I “War Speech”
* The Treaty of Versailles
* Woodrow Wilson’s 14 points
* Hitler’s Speech of April 1939

The difference between Communism, Fascism, Socialism, Capitalism

(* All readings in single link)

OPTION TWO - Essay - Africa Topic

Take the same topic you used for your Newspaper Analysis and write an essay which connects that topic with the History of Imperialism in Africa. Specifically, how is your chosen topic the outcome of imperialism? You should explore this thoroughly in your essay.  The essay will be written in class without any notes or aids of any kind. (not every topic will work for this, you will need to figure it out)

OPTION THREE - continuation of the curriculum American Heguemony

Continuing the theme of the class; Imperialism. Think about the United States in the world since WWII, write an essay that explores the accusation that the United States became an empire.   This accusation is particularly sharp from Latin America.  So looking specifically at U.S. actions (military interventions and coup d'etats) and policies in Latin America, is the accusation of imperialism justified against the United States?  You should not just state your opinion but you must show that you understand the inherent criticism of calling the U.S. an empire and what that criticism is based on.  The essay will be written in class without any notes or aids of any kind.
